Go buy a a heavy white plastic cutting board from the local cheap store and use your existing reed cage as a template and and cut it out with a jig saw and file it for the final fit. The stuff will not melt unless you put a torch to it.

Orlando,
thats a pretty sweet Tri-Z. I'm redoing my 85' 250r from the ground up. I'm putting a 350 power valve motor in it. I'll post some pics when it's done.

kciH,

Thanks for the compliments. Are you getting a big bore on your stock 250R engine or are you getting a new one? I wish they were so many tuner and add on available for the Z like they are for the R. I had a hard time getting skid plates and an exhaust. Most of the old manufacturers discontinued most of the stuff for it. My main source of parts is the Yamaha dealer, but those are OEM and expensive. I was not able to get reed spacers for my Z either but I guess I do not need them. What I really want is a port and polish work to blow away a few of the local Banshees.

Later...

I'm getting an aftermarket pro-x jug that uses the powervalve parts from a ski-doo,see-doo motor. The jugs are made in different sizes but fit on the r bottom end with a little machining to accept the larger bore cylinder sleeve.

I had no problem smoking a stock shee on my stock r, but I'd imagine the ones by you are piped, etc, etc, etc.

Were I ride there are no stock banshees most of them had Tommeys, K&N with jetted cabs, V Force reed valves and Cool Heads. Its preety close right now, but I need a little more speed to catch them if I do not get a good start. I would love to see a late model ATC250R around to do a test run but I have not seen one in a long time. Keep the 3wheelers alive!!

Stock for stock with equal riders (wieght and skill) I think the tri-z was a touch faster back in the day. Both of them will beat a stock shee in acceleration and top speed.

Wow,
I have never race a stock 250R but back in the late 80s a friend of mine had a modified 85 ATC 250R and he was way faster than me in top speed. In acceleration I killed him but he will catch up and pass me once I reach top speed. I was stock at the time and he was ported with pipe and big bore carb. I guess that made the difference. But man, that thing was really fast!!
