HELP Problem w/ Honda atc110
#1
Hey everyone i need some advice i just started restoring an 80 atc110. I just finished and found oil on the spark plug? It won't even crank now but i don't know if that's the cause or the float. Please any advice on what to do? Thanks for the help!

I'm confused on a couple of things, but I'll take a shot . .
You said it won't crank - does that mean you can't turn the engine with the
rope at all ? Or just that you can't get it to start ? If it just won't start . . .
If it's really oil on the plug, that doesn't point to a carb problem. If the plug
is wet and smells like gas, figure on taking the carb off, diassembling it,
carefully cleaning it and putting it back together and back on . . sounds a lot
harder than it actually is . . . I just did it for the first time, and it was a piece
of cake.
If it's oil on the plug, the first thing I would check would be the valve adjustment.
When I got my 110, it was smoking and burning oil - I figured it needed rings
( ie an engine rebuild ), but it didn't - it was just the valves out of adjustment.
What can happen on these is the valve stem stretches, the valves get too tight,
and can't close all the way. I adjusted mine, and now it has more power, more
compression , and no smoke at all. Check the valves. Repost or reply if you don't
know how to do that - again, it's real straightforward.

Ok i think that did it i cleaned the carb and put a new o ring on it today and that seems to have done the trick. About the oil on the spark plug i don't really know how to adjust the valves. I really am learning as i go. yea i actually just cranked it in gear and it tore down a wooden column so i think it's working pretty dang good just need to reset the headlight now. The "spring like things" inside the headlight came out so i've gotta figure out how to get that back on but running wise great i guess good enough to drive straight through a 4x4 column. Thanks for the advice.
