Winch is number one, especially with a heavy machine. GPS, maps, compass, matches, tow strap, tree strap, ****** block pulley, TP, rain gear, cargo box to hold it all, small tool set, etc. Cooler with couple quarts of drinking water, snacks, and food enough for an overnight if ever needed.

Winch, GPS, and maps get the most use.

A snowplow and a winch to raise it makes life easier in winter. All year I carry TP, a cooler full of cold drinks, and a pocket chainsaw. I always have a lighter in my pocket and used it once to make a little campfire when I ran out of gas and had to wait for my friend to come back. Sometimes I take extra gas, a machete, and jerky or something else to snack on. I used to carry a spare belt and the tools to change it but not any more. The brush guard and rear bumper have come in handy a couple of times.

I forgot all about the tire plug kit that I carry (along with the very basic toolkit that came with the ATV). That's all I can think of without looking at the bag it's in. I used to have my GPS mounted on the handlebars but the last few years I've been riding the same trails over and over with my friend that has everything memorized so I don't need it. Can I count him as an accessory? Oh yeah, I started carrying a towel to wipe my goggles off with.

I remembered something else last night. My first aid kit. Thankfully I haven't needed to use it yet. And I have a "disposable" rain poncho. I think that's everything I carry now. I used to carry a lot more when I rode by myself . . . tow rope, ****** block, leather work gloves for handling the winch cable, stuff like that.

My quad bag. Best investment bar none. I use it on every trip out. A winch, machete, tow strap and a 20' piece of rope,,,can be used for so much from clothesline to tying off the winch to a tree when its too muddy for the wheels to hold it back when winching. Thats a start of what I carry...water, snacks as others said are handy. I may not always carry food but usually do. But the bag is always loaded with the listed items.

A decent set of tools and a service manual.

If it's not running, the rest of that stuff is just fancy paperweights.
