What sort of things do you have to change to convert to alcohol? The quad is an '87 lt500, im assuming some carb mods and so forth? thanks for any info.

I think all you need is the alcohol carb - kiehin makes one for about $320 (40.5mm I think it was?)

you'll defenitely need an alky carb and maybe you'll want to go up on the size. I would say over 40 and up to 50 depending on what you have done to the engine. You may want to make sure you have an aftermarket pison or a fresh top end job. You may also want to up your compression by getting your head shaved and reshaped and maybe adavance your timing. This is all dependent on how your engine is already setup. Fuel pump may also be in your list of options. List more of what is done to your engine, for you can go with many different options.

it has a fresh (less than a month old) top end job, .60 over, with a 10:1 (im pretty sure) piston. Its not mine, so im not completely sure on the compression. It also has a FMF pipe and jetted carb, with a Uni filter. Everything else is stock. Thanks for the help guys.

Podrag is pretty much right.

However, don't forget the work that running alky requires. EVERY time you put the bike away after a ride, the engine must be flushed of the methanol to keep it from drawing moisture and rusting or gumming up. The fuel must be kept in a controlled climate. A change in temp or humidity requires jetting changes. Even a slightly lean condition will fry the engine.

And, the power increase will be good, but not optimum until porting is done. A good alcohol port job will play with the transfers and change the angle to offer more "blow down".
