Iceraceing tips

It depends on the class. the class you would run (studded) is the studded open class, and it varies from 4 - 10 racers. That class is becoming more popular, and they are aggressive racers. They ride hard, but stay away from each other.
The unstudded classhas about the same amount of riders, but this class is mainly stock machines, as horsepower isn't the key to going fast. last year there were mostly Honda's & Yamaha's in the 2WD class. The unstudded 2WD machines use Turf Tamers or Sand Wedge tires, or something with a very soft compound. You will have fun!
Remeber, the first race of the series is at Sand Lake, 12 miles N. of Virginia, on January 16. You can cut across from the North Shore and come through Aurora, saving some miles, or go through Ely. Hope to see you at one of them... come over to Niska #11 and say hi.

Ther were between 60 & 100 racers entered in 14 classes of bikes and quads...

I'm sure the majority of the bike guys from the Duluth/Superior area would go, and POSSIBLY you could draw from the cities area, depending on what weekends you ran. We have learned NOT to have conflicting dates with other iceracing events, as the racers are going to go to an established event. I think the studded quad guys would go, as they are getting more serious about it. However, some of those guys are at least an hour south of Duluth already, so the extra driving may play a factor. The unstudded classes are mainly for the locals to get involved, and most of the racers in Duluth won't travel, because they just do it for something to do, with the exception of me. If you had a 4x4 unstudded class, I would go, as long as it didn't conflict with these dates: 1/16, 1/23, 2/13, 2/27, and 3/5. These are NMRA dates.
If you need names & addresses of current racers, I'm sure I could get them for you. I have had the best luck with direct mailings to let the racers know of an up-coming event. E-mail me at pjniska@the-bridge.net if you need any info.
