Z-400 vs.~~~
#1
How does the Z perform against other machines....I'm looking at getting an 04 z-400............Of course I love speed so I have also been looking at the yfz and the trx 450's.......But I do tons of trailriding and the Z seems like it would be a little better for trailriding...plus it has reverse so thats a plus..........so how does it compare to ~~~ 400ex, pred, 400 scrambler, 500 scrambler....etc????

z400 is the way to go,it has reverse and better ground clearance the yfz and 450r,so its great for trailriding.the z is better than the 400ex in alot of things and it don't have reverse.the pred is good for trails, but has no reverse, also the scram would be a great trail machine, but needs some $$$ for it to have real good speed. All the quads you listed can scoot through the trails pretty good, but i think overall the z is the best one.

Call your local dealership. I would imagine it would be out real soon. Check around for pricing. You might save a couple grand on an excellent shape used one and be able to just add better shocks, etc. You can always add to the Z if you want more power also. I think it has plenty of power, but you say you've been riding the YFZ450 and the TRX450, so you may notice a slight difference in power.

The 450's aren't the best choice for the recreational trail rider. These engines are pipey, like a 2-stroke. You will end up doing a lot of clutch slipping. You did post this in the "Racing" section however, so are you intending to race it??? If you are wondering if it is race worthy, ask Doug Gust!
The Z400 is a great bike! Good power and great handling. Get an 05 though, it has a lot of updates.

Ya, I'm kindof inbetween the trx and the z...........the only thing that is really making me go back and forth is the reverse issue....I know whatever I do get it will be the 05 model....I'm just having a ruff time deciding....I'm planning on doing alot of harescrambles next year...but on the off time I do a lot of trailriding, open field, and some dune riding.....I just can't decide....
