First steps to start racing?
#1
Hey fellas!
I have a YFZ450. The first mod Im going is putting a full exhaust system.
Now, here is a few questions I have about getting into racing on competition.
What should be my first mods, work on my suspension or engine?
What race class should I get into?(Im 23 and never ridden in a race)
Any suggestions on what I should I do or steps?
Everything Im doing is with my own money.
How should I go about getting good deals on parts to save a little big of money...
Thanks for the time.. Any info will be great..

if you want to do engine work you can get a good deal on engine parts or shocks at www.denniskirk.com.

Always suspension first. Even over a pipe.
If you choose to get a pipe, get a quiet one. It's the wave of the future.
FYI: Nerfs and a tether are mandatory at 99.9% of tracks.
Go race in a novice class/C class. Go have fun and learn while your saving up for shocks.
Ohlins/PEP/Elka/Axis shocks once your ready.
After suspended and you are going much faster because of it, you may want some motor mods. TC Racing...TCRacingengines.com

LT80 is right, modern day 4 strokes put out all the power you need for c lass racing. Practice as much as you can and don't be afraid to play with shock settings, just get a note pad and record adjustments and see if like the change or not. I like to set min as soft as I can and only bottom out a time or two on a track, I'd rather bottom out every now and then rather than beat myself up trying not to. If I am at a track with outragously nasty whoops I set my bike to handle them the best because at tracks like that, the race is won or lost in the rough stuff. I know when you look at my signature that i have nice suspension now but I took the same time out to adjust my stockers that I do with my aftermarket suspension.
