Default drowns out

my 11 year old races hairscrambles, and races a 90 2 stroke called a drr, it runs strong but does not have an air box , and the plug is dead center front, the air filter was in front but have routed it around by his left leg, the stater is by his right foot but has not caused s problem so far, when he runs through creeks that has a few puddles 6 inches deep or so it will not take it , it splshes water right in the wrong places and well to be honest it runs really sick after that, until i can dry it out. So i made a cover out of rubber that covers the front of the engine from one fender to the other it has a bout 3 inches of dead air space between the cover and the engine, the engine fins are low in the front and are not covered. my question is will the engine get to hot with the cover on( it is air cooled) any help will be great , i need some input from someone who knows a little more than i do about 2 strokes , thanks alot

My WAG is it's not a good idea to put anything in front of an air cooled engine. Just not a good idea. It's hard to tell from your post but is the plug and wire getting wet? If it's the plug and wire you can get some di-electric grease and smear it on the plug and wire and on all electrical conections. This will seal them against the water.

It's a high grade electrical grease that will seal out any water. Any automotive parts house will have it. Napa, Schucks, Kragen, Checkers ect will have it.................
