I got a letter from the AMA in the mail asking me to join. My first quetion is, when and if I do sign up, am I also an ATVA member? Last, I didn't read through it all, but they list a bunch of stuff that you can save money on with the card, does it really save you all that much money?

Joining the AMA doesn't mean you are also a member of the ATVA. Join the ATVA if anything, because all the money goes towards ATVs. From what I understand, by joining the AMA, your money goes towards the motorcycles.

The only reason I joined was so I could race AMA/ATVA sanctioned events. I don't really know what the full benefits of joining are. Check out the ATVA website to find out more.

Do the AMA and ATVA work together with t he land closures and such? That would be my main reason for joining(until I get a quad to race). Is an ATVA card valid at AMA sanctioned tracks, or do you need both?

The ATVA is a division of the AMA. If you are just a quad guy, get an ATVA membership. If you are into the sport of motorcycling in general, I say get the AMA membership. The important thing is that you join. Some of your membership money goes to the land closure issue regardless of which one you join. If you go to the ATVA Website under Protect Your Rights, all of the press releases regarding legislative issues start off as AMA/ATVA ...

Please understand that the ATVA card entitles you to anything the AMA card gives (races too)example: you are going to a AMA santioned race, your ATVA card is accepted same as the AMA card, and yes the ATVA/AMA fights the land closures.

Like LT80 said with the ATVA card you can ride both bike and atv events. With the AMA card you can ride both bike and atv events. With the ATVA card the money goes to ATV things. The money for the AMA card is used mostly for bike (street and off-road) things. They are both localed in the same building and on the same floor and have the same phone number. The ATVA is a division of the AMA set up for ATV's.
