I am getting ready to go buy a new atv later this week, but i cant make up my mind. I dont know what would be better for me. I like both the 400ex and the z400/kfx400 but i just dont know which one to get. I mostly trail ride, open dirt roads, and do some play racing with my buddys. I live in NC and it dosen't get to hot here so liquid cooking is not that big of a deal. I used to have a 93 300ex and i never had any problems with it, i like the reliablity of the honda, but i like the looks of the KFX better. Also, which of the bikes is a better alround bike? Any thoughts would be helpfull. Thanks

Also, where i live the 400ex is 5299 and the kfx is 5699. Is the kfx worth the extra money?

it's up to you
you can buy a 400ex and throw a pipe, filter, and jets on right away and you should be close to keeping up with a KFX. Plus no liquid cooling. Not to mention 400ex's have proven there reliability over and over again. It's up to you though.

 

I would go 400ex
They will pretty much do anything, and last dang near forever. Unless you're trying to drag race which is pointless.

 

It is your decision but I ride trails and I have ridden a 400ex and I have a Z400. I love the Z400. It is great on trails, rocks, mud, whatever. I'm not saying the 400ex isnt good, because it is but I like the Z400.

 

Ive ridden my bud's 400ex alot. He has two. I like them alot, but it is yesterdays design technology. Air cooled, down on the power. He even says he would like the KX400. Good overall handling,watercooled, light, reverse gear, decent power. Good luck with what ever you decide.

Don't forget the arctic cat DVX. Its the same as the Z 400s but has a different look to it.The way I look at it is the Honda is older technology but is bulletproof and simple.The Z 400 clones are higher tech,seem to be reliable and are a little better all around.They are a little more complicated but it depends on what you want to do with it. I just bought a DVX and I like the reverse and removable fenders.The motor is a little more complicated but it has much potential with go fast goodies.

 

I was in the same boat you are in, and I went with the kfx400. I'm am very happy with my choice. I looked at it like this, Both good bikes but I got reverse and and liquid cooled for about the same money. I paid 5200 for mine. The green plastic seems to stay looking better longer. The Kawazuki seems to fit me a little better and the handleing is awsome.

If it were me..I would get the kfx..only because I think it looks a lot better....its faster then the 400ex...and it has reverse....Thats just what I would get though.
