rubicon or kodiak 450
Both are very nice machines. Here is my take on it.
1. Suspension: For sportyness, the Rube wins; for comfort, the Kodiak 450 IRS wins. Bottom line is what type of ridding will you do.
2. 4WD System: Both are very reliable, but the Kodiak 450 IRS has a diff locker, which I think all 4wd atv's should have some type. If these are 2005 machines, they both have 2wd/4wd option. If it is 2004 machines, the rube is only 4wd.
3. Trannismission: Both are very reliable, but IMO the Rube has best tranny out there. it gives you ESP, D1, D2 and the low range is great.
4. Motor: Both are strong motors, but the rube is the winner here. The rube is 499cc's while the kodiak 450IRS is a 421cc motor.
5. Display: I really like the Rube's display....very easy to read. The kodiak on the other hand IMO is located in the wrong spot. When turning the display sometimes is difficult to see.
My conclusion is you can't go wrong with either. I have friends with both machines (2003 models) and they are very good. I tend to lean toward the rube, but I haven't ridden the new IRS kodiak yet, so that could be subject to change. If you have never used the rubes tranny, you might just want one after trying it. But, all being fair in love and war.....both machines are good.
