Bombardier, Arctic Cat or Polaris
#1
We're looking at purchasing our first ATV and have been looking at the 2 rider machines as we have 2 little ones (5 & 4 years old). We went and looked at the local Arctic Cat & Polaris dealer the other day and have a few questions. Dealer didn't have the new Polaris X2 yet, but we sat on a Sportsman 500, I didn't care for the foot brake position, it seemed a bit too far to the rear. We also sat on a Arctic Cat TRV and thought the foot brake seemed to be in a better position. I've ridden motorcycles for the past 15 years and am used to having the foot brake right under the ball of my foot, is it different for ATV's? Also noticed the TRV seat was quite a bit narrower than the Polaris, the Polaris seemed more comfortable and we noticed the seat actually went down where your knees would be also, is the TRV seat uncomfortable on trail rides? Haven't gotten to a Bombardier dealer yet but will try to in the next few days.
Thanks

I'm facing the same dilema as you as I'm looking for something I can haul around my little boy and occasionally the wife when she's not riding the Trailblazer. I am looking for a new ATV purchase, but I am finding way better deals on leftover 2005 models. Unfortunately most of the 2005 leftovers going for great prices aren't 2 seaters. So what I did was I did a search on e-bay for "atv cargo box" and if you look at the kimpex ones on there for around 220 bucks it looks like it may be an alternative to a 2 seater. Looks as though the little ones would stay on alot easier since they are supported all the way around by the storage boxes. One thing to remember though is some states require your atv to be a 2 seater if you are hauling around 2 people. Where I do most of my riding in Wisconsin, there isn't no such law so not a problem for me. The 2 seaters seem to be the latest rage so if you're interested in saving some money check this idea out if it's possible where you live. Brian

Briman,
Thanks for the info, that's one options we've considered and still may lean that way after I do some more research. I'm still a little leary of having my 4 and 5 year olds ride on a 2 seater even.
Where do you ride in Wisconsin, I have in-laws up near Hayward and that is one of the places we'd be riding.
Thanks

Hey mayday92 no problem glad to help. I'm very new to atving as ever since I was 5 I have been racing/riding motorcycles (I'm 35 now). A co-worker turned me on to a ride late last fall in November and got me hooked. So far the only place I've been in Wisconsin is here Text. Very leisurely riding, but I like the different trails they have. Railroad grade, some paved scenic roads, along with dirt trails through farmlands and prairies. I'm planning some bigger trips farther up north around the Black River Falls, Grant county area where I'll spend the night and then eventually go to some other places. Like I said I'm new but the streetbike doesn't get ridden as much as it used to. I think I actually like atving better as it's much more relaxed. No oncoming cars, traffic, etc. to worry about. Brian

I hear y aon the street bike thing, I sold mine about 3 years ago and my neighbor has got me interested in ATVs. I think it would be fun for the whole family but I just want to make sure it is as safe as possible. Those trails in WI look like exactly the kind of riding we want to do. Neither my wife or I are into the mud hole riding.
Thanks for the info.

I test drove a Bombardier Outlander, Artic Cat, & Polaris Sportsman yesterday. As far as comfort I ranked Polaris, Bomb, & then AC. Bombs have a good warranty but the Polaris appears to be built better e.g. better suspension, wheel base, brake lines, radiator protection. I ruled out the AC just not comfortable enough for me.
BTW;
I purchased the Polaris
