Default Outlander 800, 800 max, or sportsman 700,800??

Gotta make a decision about which to get next.... Last ATV was a prairie 700, I liked it very much, loved the engine and performance but it lacked a little in the fit-finish department, compared to the polaris IMO. This time around I was leaning towards the polaris 700, until I started reading that the 800 is a better performer. My local dealer has a couple leftover 700's I can get a great deal on in mossy oak. Is there a great difference in handling between the max and standard 800? The additional capacity to carry a passenger is a definate bonus for me as the wife likes to go for rides. But, I still need to be able to tear it up with the fellas!

Question is "Which ATV is the king?". Seems like all my friends are leaning towards the Yam Rhino's but they don't do it for me. They are really a cool vehicle but it just isn't going to fit where I want to go and it wasn't overly fast either.

The only drawback I can see is the limited availability of BRP partsand the ATV itself, Hell I can't even get one for a couple months!

Anyway... any input you guys and girls can give would be greatly appreciated... How fast will the 800's go anyway, on a long straight?? Which will win in a drag race? Racing is not my only use but being the big dog on the block definately has its advantages.

Thanks in advance for the help! Mike

Mike the diffference in the two 800's is big IMHO. The Polaris is built for work and play. It is heavy so it will be able to tow a lot. They are built for work but have a big block in them so they can play also. They are a nice all around quad.
The Outty on the other hand is built to be king of the hill in the drags and racing. BRP put a big block in a in a very light chassie and calls it a ute. It is also a very nice quad but not built for work IMHO. Sure, it can do work but not like the Polaris. Sure, the Polaris can drag, but not like the Outty.
Just depends on what you want to do.

Thanks for the input. I'd love to try the Outlander but I'm afraid the performace gain won't be worth the lack of convenience in the parts department, my local dealer is a polaris, yam, kaw ktm, suz dealer. The nearest BRP dealer is about 45 minutes away, and with the Outlander being a new model, with all the new model "bugs" once they are discovered to be worked out.

I'm not in a big rush to get one so maybe I'll sit back and wait for a while to see how things go..

ONE guys ISOLATED problem with his ATV does not make for an entirely bad batch of Outlanders. You'll be hard pressed to find another post with the problems our Canadian friend is having. The Polaris ATVs have far more problems,if you look thru the forums.

I own a new Outty Max 800 with 320 miles on it and except for an inaccurate speedometer, its been everything I hoped it would be,and I've owned ALOT of 3-4 wheelers since 1983. I have a close friend that also owns the 800 BRP and he loves it.Im not telling you to NOT buy the Polaris ATVs,im just saying that you ought not allow one persons bad experience influence your buying decision. If that were the case, there;s not a Polaris available that you'd buy.

Tell me your not concerned after reading that post. yes it is one. but a big one ??????Why dont u give bomb a call and ask them why they cant figure out how to fix their own machine that they created. That blows my mind.

My biggest factor was the relationship I have with my dealer, they are in the town I work in and are easy to deal with. I've been buying bikes from them for about 10 years. The Bombardier looks like a fantastic machine and if I didn't have to wait for 2 months to see one it may have been a different story for me. Another was that hour ride to the nearest dealer, along with the possibility of first year quirks made the polaris the right choice for me.

Pics to come shortly, price was a bit over 9k otd including a winch, plow, front brush guard and rear bumper and a backrest. Taxes, insurance, registration and mv fees were also included.

Took it for a quick 5 mile ride tonight, I live near a wildlife refuge and so far so good, would have gone for a good ride but 5 am comes pretty damn early for work tomorrow.
