my brother is probably going to get a 03 660 raptor, and i was trying to find somthing that will run with it, we mostly ride trails and some open trails, but nothing much we live in michigan, and i heard that z400's will beat a 660 easy on trails. i like the z's alot but i also remembered about predators, i heard they have lots of problems tho. if i got a z i would want to eventually get a 440 kit on it. i just want to be able to keep up with him on trails and somewat on straights, i know that a z will not keep close on a sprint. also i thought of ex 400's but i dont like that they are air-cooled and can over heat on hot days and hard riding, someone please help me

 

The 05-06 z400s will run with a stock 660r no problem on any trail or any drag. The 03-04s are just a tick slower but they will still hang.

My 05 is totally stock and I've run right with 660r's with basic mods. In fact I've only been "blown away" by two quads and they were both YFZs. I even ran an 04 (first year) 450r and while he beat me, he certainly didn't blow me away like I expected. I'm sure the new 450r is another story however.

If you want to erase all doubt just go buy the new Raptor 700 and get it over with. I'm sure they will walk all over a z400 and a Raptor 660 without a problem.

Do a search, there are about 20,000 posts about z400 versus Raptor660.

 

The Z is a great trail machine. The engine hops up real well and handling is excellent. I would say the Raptor is faster out in the open, but on a trail the 660 Raptor is narrow and tippy, so it's not the hot ticket.

 

If i were you i would just forget putting a 440 kit in a z 400 and just buy one of the 450's.
