Buying a new ATV
You might be surprised how many diamonds in the rough can be found. Here in CA you get a lot of guys who buy ATV's, ride them a few times then they just sit in the garage. The problem is that these guys think they can get close to what they paid cause they are " like new, only ridden a few times"......I just saw an 05 YFZ450 in the paper for 6999 USED...My buddy just bought a brand new one for 6699 OTD. I just sold a used Beartracker to my buddy, I rode that thing about three times then got a bigger quad, he probably rode it more before he bought it then I did.
Be careful too, I looked at a quad with only "63 miles" lol, I fired it up and noticed the spedo. had been disconnected but the hours showed over 70 and the brakes looked pretty worn for 63 miles, guy claimed the battery was left on YEAH RIGHT!

this is most likely the same dealer i got mine from[heinens in osseo] , when i bought mine there wasnt even another bid when the asking was $4400[ that was heinens initial asking price and they had an $85 setup charge on top of that: these were a liquidation of stock from a dealer that went under and had a full warrantee[my unit had a slight cosmetic blemish on the right front fender[didnt notice till it got home], also as an out of stater i didnt have to pay sales tax to boot, my total savings factoring that in was closer to $2700], where are all the price shoppers?, its not like it was a private auction or a limited time deal[was a 6 day auction], it amazes me sometimes.....

Buying a new ATV
Personally, I would think 600 miles a year on an atv is not totally unreasonable, although some might disagree.
For your first question, I would say buy an Arctic Cat 400. While they are more expensive (new) than other makes, they are MUCH LARGER for the cc than anything else except maybe Polaris. As far as used AC bikes go, I just picked up an 04 AC 500 TRV with 600 miles, new tires and still under warranty- for $3900- out of state, so no taxes. The same dealer had an 04 AC 400 4x4 auto for 3600. So the great buys are out there on 'cats, you just have to look a little longer for them than for some of the other makes.

Buying a new ATV
I would never consider buying a used ATV from someone who I didn't know personally and wasn't familiar with there care and maintenance of the machine. The hidden abuse and neglect that could be unspoken in ATV transactions is enough to put a seller on the superhighway to hell.
