Grizz or KingQuad?
#12
The Yamaha dealer said the Grizzly has 4 wheel engine braking, where the KQ only has front wheel. Is that true? If so, that would mean that the KingQuad has no engine braking when not in 4 wheel drive. Doesn't sound right...
That doesn't sound right b/c it's not right. The King's engine braking works very well on all 4 tires, and better than the Grizzly, in Low gear going down hill you have to give it gas to keep it going. Your dealer is just trying to sell that Grizzly.
Also, if you think the Grizz has more low end power, and feels peppier don't let that draw you away from the King...There's an aftermarket ECU coming out in late October for the King that will make it have a monsterous low end and incredible throttle response. The King's is detuned very badly through it's stock ECU by Suzuki, so in reality the King packs a noticable power increase over the Grizz 660 and 700. This will put it closer to the BF 750 in power, as stated by VDI the ones making the ECU.

That is true about the engine braking effect. Both the King Quad and the Brute Force 750 have more efficient engine braking than what is found on the 660 Grizzly. Even still the Grizz is not bad at all. The Suzuki's version is just a little better, and the Brute Force's braking is better still...

Just thought I'd update you as to what my final decision was...
'06 King Quad, green.
7.5 hours so far and loving it. If I only had more time to ride...

Congrats! I like the King Quad. I considered buying one before I got my Grizzly. My buying circumstances were a little different though because the KQ was having transmission troubles when going in reverse while I was shopping around. They fixed that problem for '06 though. Good choice!!
