Need Suggestions on a First ATV
#1
I'm getting my first ATV soon but I'm really not sure what to get. I'm about 5'11 so I'm not looking for a really small one. I plan on riding pretty much on all terrains; cement, woods, dirt, etc. I'm also planning on buying a used ATV to save some money. I'm thinking of the Raptor 660, it's all terrain and a good price. What do you all think?

What is your weight??? That makes as much difference as height......
The Raptor 660 is kind of a quirky machine. It has great power and a thrilling engine, but it is narrow and carries its weight high in the frame. Lots of folks will describe it as being "tippsy".
The 400's are great starter quads for adults. Honda 400EX and Suzuki Z400.

I'm pretty light, only around 145. I PLAN on going on a weight gaining work out plan but I'm not sure if that'll go through so I guess to be safe 140-160. I'm looking up information one thw two you suggested. Thanks

I like the 400EX for tighter trails. It has lots of low end torque and an engine that will lug down, and doesn't mind being ridden slowly in the tight, semi-technical stuff. Yet, it has descent top speed.
The Z's engine likes to rev (but not as much as the 450's), so I pick it for faster more open trails and riding wide open areas. It has a faster top speed than the EX. It is water cooled (the EX is air cooled) and the engine has a lot of hop up potential.

well if ya want quad that you wont grow out of, and that has plenty of power, id go with the raptor 700 (or 660) or a yfz 450... im sure other companies make good quads, but lets face it.. noting compares to a yamaha.

I suggest a hybrid 4 poker on a 250r based frame. Its hard to match a yz 426 on a narrow front end t-pin laeger frame with a cr500 link rear on full custom axis shocks or a no-link rear lonestar framed crf 450 with a long travel front end with outlaw spndles riding on full elkas. For your first bike, you will not be disappointed.
