Default Buying a Used Sport Quad

Lately i have realized that 90% of the time im driving my prairie its in 2 wheel., and i have been dying to get something with a manual. my price range is 2500-2900. i have been looking at 02 raptors, z/kfx400's, and predators. i ride mostly wood trails and open fields. id prefer liquid cooling and reverse would be extremely useful. just curious what you would recomend?

no only the 01'. so stay away from that model unless they have the upgraded tranny then it is no problem.

If possible id like to get more of an open class machine. ive seen a number of predators in my price range is there anything i should avoid in that quad and would it make an okay woods/tight trail machine? Ive seen a few raptors but mostly 01's how prevelent are the tranny problems in that model? the z would be nice, but i think id miss the troque that the v-twin cranked out. Thanks

Deff stay away from the 01 Raptor go 02 and newer and you will be ok. For what you are looking for the Honda is more of a torquer than the Z so I would do the honda if you are strickly a open class 400. They are proboly the cheeper to find of the used 400's as well and you can modify the heck out of them.

the 400ex seems a bit outdated(air cooled) and the z is in roughly the same price class as the predator raptor and yfz. i like the z's concept, i just dont want to have to spend hundreds of dollars on the z to make it keep up with the open class machines when i could have bought one from the start.

the z400 can make way more power than the 400ex.

Even thoe I am apolaris fan even I know that there are not allot of options for ugrading a Polaris compared to the Yamaha so I guess I would go w/ the 660. You also have a option of DS 650.

Yeah ok, I'll give the z the fact that its liquid cooled, but it's not gonna smoke a 400ex. Honestly on the trials your not going to notice a diffrence. The 400ex is one hell of a trial machine and the suspension is no slouch...

if you wanna trial ride, ride all them and find which one you like, if you wanna race saze your money and buy a yfz
