I would not spend the money on a 400cc machine. I would go with the Recon, you can't break 'em.. If you could find an older 350cc Rancher for a deal that would be a good choice also.. Don't buy something fancy if it is for light work and trails. You can find some killer deals on both those hondas.

Well, the first thing that comes to mind is that she is riding with her son and husband who are riding dirt bikes, so she needs to be able to keep up. The polaris 400 has independent suspension so the ride is very comfortable and not even you honda fans can argue that. Lastly, it is very likely her son or husband will like to ride this on occasion and will not be dissappointed with the power. I have yet to hear anyone on any forum say that there atv has too much power and they want to get a smaller atv! I have yet to see anything ya'll have posted here that convinces me to buy a honda except that you have one, that they are cheap, and that she should buy one too! Do we need to break down every option and spec to show the pros and cons?
