Default HELP!.... can't decide...

Hey guys...

I had planned to for sure buy a ride YESTERDAY!

I'm dead ready, I just can't for the life of me decide.

Here are my NEW choices

LTZ/DVX/KFX 400 (DVX 400 probably)
Outlaw 500 IRS
Scrambler 500 4x4

Here are my USED choices
'01 TRX400EX

Now here is where I get hung up on the new ones... I like them all to an extent...

The DVX400 is awesome, but it does not have IRS or 4x4

The Outlaw 500 is bad, should ride the best with the IRS and has great protection & clearance, but it is not 4x4

The Scrambler is nice, it's auto and 4x4 too, and sporty, but it's not really an all-out sport quad either. The negatives seem to be the 200 extra pounds and the auto tranny (although the auto is nice because anyone can ride).

The used 400EX I haven't seen in person yet to judge it's used condition. But I know I like this simple air cooled sport quad, and prefer the old '01 look, but also know it lacks reverse, which is nice to have but not a huge deal...

I have been mauling this over for a WHILE now and had decided if I didn't find the right used quad by the 19th that I would get one of these new. But I can't decide. All of them offer nice features.

The wheeler will be used for various stuff. I'll ride it hard in the trails by myself. I may take it on a track by myself if I find one too... but strictly for FUN. Other days I will be putting around on it, carrying a passenger... my wife or daughter... leasure riding.

I live in a mountain area... so all woods trail riding. Some tight, some rough, some steep, some muddy, some easy and open... no sand dunes, no swamps.

About the only thought I've had really is I thought about just going and getting the Scrambler because... 1 - my wife could drive it too.... 2 - it has 4x4.... 3 - no clutch or shifter to get at with a passenger.

But ultimately that thought ended as soon as it was finished because I thought about how seldom my wife might crawl on it herself, how dang heavy it is, and how unsure I am about the auto tranny.... I've always ridden full-on sport machines all the time, except for like deep mountain travel for hunting, etc... where 4x4 is really needed... and I used a full-on utility quad for that... which made me think of the leftover Honda Rancher AT I saw the other day...

I'm no big fan of the Wolverine, but I would pick it over the Scrambler.

I looked at the Wolverine as an option... in the auto/4x4 category.

Myself, I liked it. The stance seems better, it's a little lighter, etc.
But I couldn't get an answer to rather or not it had any advantage over the Scrambler, like 'does it come stock with engine braking' etc... But the real deal killer for me was the seat. Did you notice how small and thin the seating got after the makeover?

The Scrambler ended up topping the 4x4/auto category for me.
But considering the weight, some of the utes might deserve more consideration.

I don't know... sometimes I wonder if the Scrambler is even any more sporty than the Ranchers like you have... ya know?

I'd love to get my wife a Rancher 4x4 and get one of those rack seat things. Honda has it nailed with those UTE's. They are not so HUGE like the others. But they didn't keep the AT when they upgraded to the 420... and although I know were a 400AT is, I think the sticker is outragous... especially for a leftover model.

What could be more simple than pushing a button to shift on a 420 right?
Automatic is my wife's answer to that of course... lol...
The fact the AT goes both ways is VERY nice.

That 400EX I need to go look at is an '01 with the yellow plastic.
I know where a barely moved 450R is for $3,200 too.
I'm calling my friends tomorrow to see how often their valves have needed attention.
But I think the 400 is a better choice for me.
I don't have much riding time as it is....

Default HELP!.... can't decide...

Well, I went on down to the Polaris dealer that had both machines....

The Polaris dealer made both decisions for me...
I still wasn't sure when I arrived...
But the Scrambler was in some storage warehouse still in the crate.

I looked at the Outlaw and noticed a few things on it that were cheap/cheesy looking. Mostly the controls... bars, clutch/brake handles, etc... but I was really digging the IRS and the clearance/protection that provides and was willing to take a gamble on the handling, hoping I would get a nice ride and get used to it. So we went to make a deal.

They threw on me some extra "fees" and I told myself screw that unless they would throw in enough goodies to make up for it... and they did. But while I was picking out my "thrown in" helmets and such.... well I see a shop guy come into the parts department............................

He's griping that they have sold this Outlaw and it's the one they robbed the wiring harness off of for some other owner because they didn't have it in stock.... and he's trying to figure out where the one is that they ordered..............

I was pretty ticked off. I had to make a long drive into a big city for this, which had me about to blow my lid before I got there. Errrr.....

So I guess after the holiday I will see if the DVX400 is still an option.
(looking at some used stuff until then)

I'd have to go back into the same city to look at the used 400EX, which I am not sure I want to do again with a truck & trailer.
