400 c.c. Suzuki or Yamaha
I'm looking for a 400cc, i really dont feel the need for more.
I plan to use it only for moose hunting, and playing around in woods during the season, ( building new trails )
But sometimes it's hard time....Very hard to no Trail at all,
Carry a trailer back to camp with a moose in it.
Speed is not an issue for me.
but reliability is !
I want a 5 speed,
4X4 and 2X4, with a difflock possibility.
Small and light ( if its possible )
And of course a winch, skid plate, and hitch.
The Dealer proposed me a Suzuki King Quad ( 5 speed ) 400 at 6945$
Or a Yamaha Big Bear ( 5 speed ) 400 at 7095$ ( Canada )
I dont want an Automatic, I'd like too, but my boddy is a mechanic ( atv and bike )
He says: Good, fun, but expensive for maintenance about every 4 year...depend on use...., ( Stap ), Go for a 5 speed, last a lifetime...
What do you think ???
Thank's for taking the time to help me.

As far as the belt thing goes, if not abused they can last many years and thousands of miles. Also, They only cost about $60 and take an hour to change. That's about the same time and cost as an oil change using dealer fluids and filter. But, if you just don't feel comfortable with a belt-drive, stay with the 5-speed.

I don't think you can go wrong with either ATV. They have both been around a long time (400 Suzuki was the Eiger) and they have both been very reliable. The only difference I think is the Big Bear may have the IRS (help me out here guys) and if it does it will be a smoother ride but apt to more maintainence down the road. Again either one would be good. Maybe look at the 500 Honda Foreman (500cc) if you would like a little more power. I agree with the 5-speed. The last three ATV's I've had have been auto's and they do require a little more maintainence.
Hope this helps.

Thank's a lot everybody,
Finally i've choose a Yamaha BigBear 400cc,
fortunately i've found a dealer with a 2007 brand new for 6700$ ( Canadian Fund )
With the 2500 warn winch, and 300$ Yamaha dollar ( gift ) for accessory's.
I've add the rear bumper, the rear rack extension, and HandGuard.
After looking underside, i didnt fell the need to add more skid plate then the one already in place ( hard plastic ).
The dealer Stongly recommend me to use Yamalube motor oil, and Yamalube Rear gear lub. Because of the transmission and the rear brake.
But for the front diff, he says to simply use 80w90.
Now i'm on the market for a trailer,
a guy around build trailer for any need, he proposed me a Full Aluminum trailer. for 1600$ ( $Can$ )
1650 pound capacity, 14 inch wheel, with a spare and the jackwheel.
which i think his very good.
But i dont know which size Exactly for my needs ?
I want to carry my ATV in it, then after plug-it on my bigbear for different tasking, like carrying wood, or hunting stuff....
Should i go with bigger tire to have more Ground Clearance, or 14 inch is plenty.
And the Size....width : 48-50-52 inch ???
length: 84-90-96 inch ( close ) i dont want it too big...just the right size,,, !!!

Bigger is better on the trailer. Easier to tow, easier to back up, easier to load, more options to load. Definately go wider that 52" on the trailer deck. Your quad is very close to 48" wide at the tires, especially if you ever add knobbier aftermarket tires. Trying to load or unload from a trailer that only gives you an inch or two on either side is difficult and a real pain. Also, if you have a trailer large enough for two quads it makes it easier if you are riding with a friend. Frankly, the only reasons to get a smaller trailer would be the cost and if you do not have rom to store the trailer when not in use.
