Don,t buy Canadian ATVs
I live in Sault Ontario just across the river of Sault Michigan. My friend of mine just bought a NEW 08 500 Foreman from Michigan for $6300 TOTAL!
Thats after Duty border fees,Mechanical at Canadian tire and Taxes at Ontario license Office. $6300 Total!
He bought a Foreman because he liked my other friends Foreman 500 he bought in Sault Canada at our Honda dealer for $9000 TOTAL. after taxes. He is still green from the news.LOL
I know its more simple from a border town but $2700 savings is worth a road trip and motel room I would think.
IMPORT RULES if you go for it.

I had heard that some US dealers were told not to sell to Canadians as the corporate offices felt that took away from your (Canadian) local dealers.
Being just a tad south of there, I couldn't say whether this was true or not. When your friend bought his, did they even ask?

Not all dealers will sell to Canadians from what I understand, but some will. Definately some decent savings to be had, especially with the exchange rate being what it is right now. Only problem is warantee, might not get it waranteed in Canada...not sure on that tho. Guess it depends all on dealers.
On a plus side, Can-am Canada has lowered MSRP's for 2009 by a substantial amount.
Heres a writeup I found on a guy who did the same thing, explains details pretty good. Doesn't seem too big a deal if the dealer will sell to Canucks:

The warranty in Canada was only 6 months long, for my friend who bought his Foreman in Canada, the short 6 month warranty ran out while the ATV was stored in the shed for the winter and was over before he knew it . That was in 05 three years ago and the ATV has never had a problem anyways. $2700 saving without the short warranty is still well worth it.

Yeah, I agree for sure. I think some manu's are going 1 year, Honda, Suzuki, not sure if that applies in Canada, but anyways. I agree that its still worth the savings. Most of the time what you will pay going to the States is still less/similar than a good used model here in Canada, and used quads have no warantee anyways and you still have a used quad vs new.
I've seen dealers in Montana, Minnesota sell Grizz 700's for around $7000usd. MSRP in Canada is $11,600can. Over $4600 in savings......even with some dealers selling below MSRP, I've yet to see a Grizz 700 under $10,200 up here...
