I was looking at a non current 06 DRZ 400S.Dealer said it was 4999 I asked him what is the OTD price he said w P/F taxes etc etc it would be 57 and change.Thats financing it.I told him what if I got you 5000 cash an call it a day cut out all the bs.He replied it wouldnt matter suzuki isnt giving him any discounts an he isnt making any money on it anyway barely(cough cough bs). I pretty much left it there.I know this is atv board but alot of us have more then just atvs.I live in NJ an the only way left to ride state parks is to be legal, more Buerocratic bs if ya ask me.Any how just wondering if any 1 has 1 an what the OTD price you paid?

DS may be the only future off-roading has.......
All the dual sports are kind of heavy pigs! The DRZ in addition, is freakishly tall (so you better have long legs!). It does however have an excellent engine, and lots of power.
Earlier this year I went with the newly redisigned 2009 KLX250S. I didn't want one of the entry level machines (CRF230L or XT250), and the WR250 and the KTM's are all to tall/expensive. The DRZ was also to tall, plus I didn't feel like the DRZ was all that sporty. In my mind, the KTM's are the holy grail of dual sports!!!
Also picked up a leftover 07 XT225 dirt cheap, for my son. He is an experienced quad rider, but has no dirt bike experience....and this is a great beginner's machine. I also use it as my daily commuter, until he gets his license.

Thank you reconranger for your reply! Yeah I have NOT given up on quads an I hope this not be the case ds is way to go.I'd love a ktm or husky or even the aprilia 550 svx but those bikes are alil bit out of my budget range,I like the wr 250 but 2 much dough an not enough bike cc wise.IF Yammie had brought out a 450 id had bought 1. The 1 shopwriter at the yamaha dealer by me told me in 09 or 10 they will have a 450 DS it will be 8 or 9 an Im like thinking 8 gs for a yammie, hellooooo KTM.I don"t know w the way the economy is going how any 1 is affording these bikes,Lets see the economy sucks.we are being raked over the coals on fuel an food an instead of bikes getting cheaper there costing more an more,I mean 18 grand for v max an its a yammie these companies just have no clue. THis is not the way to bolster a starving economy by out pricing everything outta greed. 1 more thing on these 450s the honda salesman told me why we will never see a full fledge 450 or in full tune ds.He said these are higher maintenance higher revving bikes w splash lubrication instead of full pressure as on street bikes,THese guys take em out on the street dont bounce around stuff seizes cause motor isnt getting oil splashed around on flat pavement, long story short guys brings bike back to dealer all mad because it wasnt used in its intended state an purpose and dealer doesnt have to do a damn thing bout it.I actually will agree w that. Yeah actually I really like the 650L but the nose bleed seat an being only 5'11 an not that expereinced w mx bikes,I cant risk it.

As for the lubrication issue with the Honda 450's, that's a easy fix....everybody just runs a full quart of oil in the trans. I run extra oil in my TRX trans just to play it safe, for that same reason.
There is speculation that we may never see a 450 DS. Japan has a law that limits DS's to 400cc's, so there is nothing prodding them on to build one, and I don't think they realize that the US market would absolutely eat up these machines! I guess they could just reduce the bore on a 450 and do it that way.
Unfortunately, I live in Calif. where we can't do DS conversions. In the old days, you just bought an XR400 and threw a Baja kit on it and you were good for many years of great riding. But now, if it doesn't come DS from the factory, you are out of luck.
Don't ignore the KLX250S. It is kind of in a class by itself, in between the entry level machines and the WR. It is a pretty descent machine, and $1,000 less than the WR, yet only $400 more than the Honda 230. Sure, it comes all corked up, but there is lots of potential there.....
