I pretty much agree with everything that's been said. The Renegade is a light handling 4x4 with very good speed and handling. The 500cc is more than adequate for everyone but someone wanting higher speeds. I had a 250 Xplorer. While it moved my 350 lbs. around it didn't have much of a top end and still weighed in around 600 lbs. if I remember right. So, if you should get stuck it can be a bear to pull it out of the mud. I got a sporty quad that weighed in around 400 lbs. stuck a number of times. Once it was so bad I couldn't lift it out of the nice New England clay mud it was stuck in. Had to keep jerking on it with a tow strap from my other quad to get it free. (And this was before I hurt my back and could lift the rear end of a small car off the ground)

On the winch front, the smaller cc machines don't come with them as a rule. The 500cc and up quads are more likely to offer the packages that include a winch.

Didn't they stop making 2 stroke ATVs because of pollution?

Pollution is a big reason, noise is another. I know there are some that think otherwise but a screaming high pitched 2 stroke is one of the reasons a lot of private land owners are shutting trails down. I had one. Got tired of the noise and the smell. If I wanted that I'd go cut trees down with my Stihl. Fouled plugs are not fun either.

100% agree with moose.

here's my rant on 2 strokes...

I think the noise factor was a big issue.
some people around here will argue till death that 2 strokes are quieter but decibel vs decibel, the 2 strokes are noiser.

I have a big sand pit 1/4 mile behind my house- all I ever hear are the high revving 2 strokes - never hear a 4 stroke until it passes my house. it's a decibel thing.

there used to be a circuit track a few miles from my house in uxbridge, ma- houses a half mile away started complaining about the constant high pitched sound coming from the 2 strokes- the owner of the track fought the town for 2 years but finally lost the battle and closed down.

I grew up on 2 stroke dirtbikes and gokarts- I've owned 2 stroke ski boats & 4 stroke ski boats- the 2 strokes were obnoxious (with factory pipes) the 4 strokes with factory pipes you couldn't even hear- actually thought the motor had stalled a few times because they were so quiet.

how many 2 stroke cars, trucks & street bikes you find riding around?
2 strokes are unreliable and high maintenance. always replacing pistons, cylinders & rings- ask anyone who's ever owned a 2 stroke jet ski that switched to a 4 stroke ski and see if they'd ever go back- no wont find anybody.

I think you should check out the yamaha wolverine 450 4x4. you'll like it and it's not over priced like the can-ams
