Smile 02 Used Sportsman 400 or New 13 Sportsman 500 HO

I'm torn I want a Polaris sportsman and I have two options I can buy a new 2013 sportsman 500 HO or I can buy a 2002 Sportsman 400 from my grandmother it only went on 2 trips and has 400 kms on it but it has been sitting not running in her garage for 8 years she wants $3000 for it or I can buy this years 500 for $6500. What's your opinion I'm back and forth. What are the pros and cons. Thanks in advance.

Sitting that long, a lot of gaskets, etc can be deteriorated. I would be a little hesitant because you could easily put the extra money back into for just parts.

You can buy alot of parts for $3500.

What ever parts it needs from sitting sure will not be exspensive one.

If its your relative ask if you can take it for a ride. Pretty hard to hide broken after even one ride.

May just need fluids changed and battery. Thats about a $100 job the leaves you $3400 to go out and buy another ATV if you want two of them.

I decided to buy the older atv as it only has 244kms on it and found out that its a late 2004 not a 2002. I took it apart cleaned the carb, gas tank and air filter. Changed the engine oil and the spark plug and charged the battery, she started up first try. Tonight I'm going to tackle the tranny oil and gear case oil then ill take her for a light duty ride...... Hopefully nothing blows up.
