Your counting on the drug addicts having a bolt cutter with them. That maybe so if they are specifically after it but not if they just came across it by chance unequipped. Anything is better then they just put it in neutral and push it away.

I agree anything is better than nothing and any form of security may stop some joy riders, but it takes a lot to stop a professional thief. The people who took mine came with bolt cutters. Probably the same people every time. Once they caught some young black guy riding my quad on the other side of town while he was out on bail for stealing an SUV.

If you found your quad in the same town, then they weren't too smart then. A professional thief would have quickly left town and got as far away as they could. The farther you go from the crime scene, the harder it is to find you. We had a similar situation but with more tragic results about a year ago in my area. A drunk driver hit a pedestrian with his truck and killed her. He tried to take the truck to a junkyard to get rid of the evidence. He might have succeeded too if he had gone farther away but he only went about 50 miles. Needless to say, he got caught. One of my favorite quotes, "Life is hard. Its even harder when you're stupid."
