Um i have never heard of a mojave 110 but why dont you get him with an auto clutch. fully auto limits you to basically polaris. Acctually there is a new 200cc bombardier rally that would be perfect. Have you seen it? If not that i would say bayou 220. Rock solid machine really, cant kill it. my uncle has one. Even the kasea 150 wouldnt be a bad choice. But its manual clutch. But sooner or later he has to learn so why not now? 1. rally 2. bayou 3. kasea

If you want to keep him on a "sporty" line, I'd say go with the 250EX. It's a good beginner quad. It's basically the same as a Recon, but with sporty plastic, and a little hotter cam.

Dave - You didn't mention how old, how big and how much experience he has. All are important factors in what size bike he can handle.

My oldest son is 10 years old, 80 lbs and just under 5' tall. He's an experienced trail rider with over 4 years on ATV's. If we were to move up to a larger quad today I'd feel comfortable enough with him on a machine as large as a Recon or Ozark. Realistically, I don't expect to make this move for another two years. Right now he drives a Honda TRX90.

Fez brought up a good point about the auto-clutch models. Shifting is just another skill to be learned. If he's old enough to be on a machine bigger than the LT80, he's old enough to learn how and when to shift.

As to choices; the Rally sounds promising (if butt ugly IMO), Suzuki 160 (no longer made), Kawasaki 220 (now the 250), Honda Recon or 250ex, Suzuki Ozark or Yamaha Bear Tracker. I'm wary of the durability of the Kasea. It seems like every time you read a test report on them, something breaks. Whatever you get must be sized not only to your sons size but his maturity level and skill as an ATV driver. Putting an 80 pound kid on a 250cc machine and it is going to be fast. Consider getting helmet radios, I know that I can stop my son with just a word and can talk him through a tricky spot if needed.

The 250EX and Recon are good choices if he is big and mature enough to handle them. My daughter had a Suzuki 160 as an intermediate bike, and I thought the thing was great! My 8 year old son is on a TRX 90. He is tall and an experienced rider, but just doesn't have the weight to handle a bigger machine, so he will be on the 90 for a couple of more years.

Great advise guys. My son is 12 and rides an lt80. He is about 90lbs and is getting tall. I would like to keep him on it another year just because I dont want to buy another quad this summer.
If he takes a growing spirt do you guys think that some different
handle bars might keep him on it longer? I mean make it a more comfortable for him.
Also I had a 220 bayou last year it is a great machine for the money, not that sporty but gets the job done.
