stolen quad?
#2
Most State Police agencies maintain a list of stolen motor vehicles by VIN. Don't know if there's a national "hot" vehicle data base or not.
If a quad has been reported stolen in your state by VIN, you may be able to tell if the one in question IS stolen. However, a quad may be stolen and NOT reported by VIN; proving the negative (a quad is not stolen) by this method is more difficult. A Manufacturer's Statement of Origin, Title, Bill-of-Sale (receipt), License Registration are useful to prove the legitimacy of a motor vehicle.
Whatever, if you buy this thing, GET A BILL-OF-SALE (RECEIPT) FROM THE SELLER! You will be protected from a charge of accepting stolen goods, should the machine turn out "hot." If the seller's unwilling to provide documentation of the sale, watch out.
Ever see the movie or read the book, "The Ox-Bow Incident?"

The first time I had a quad stolen from me and didnt get any results from the police. So I called the DMV and every shop in my area to find out if they bought stolen parts and if anyone called seeing if they wanted stolen parts lead the person on to see what they had for sale. Then I gave a discription of my bike and told them what it was an I also told the shop they would recieve a hansome reward from me if anything came up.

The second time I had a bike stolen I didnt mess with the police and just went hunting for quad steelers my self. I went snooping around all of the houses in the area that my bike was stolen in and found two tire markes that matched my Razer tires in the back of a muddy truck. Then I knocked on the guys door and started asking him if he knew anything about a stolen quad and he just acted funny to me so I begin to pressure him out of some information in a couple of different ways and I finaly got him to confess into doing it.
After that I throw him into the back of my truck hualed him down to the police station and gave the police a report and he admited to steeling the quad, but even after about four months the county's DA office didnt follow through with the case and the guy didnt even get community service.
