That is a simple but loaded question. I think it is not a good idea to ride double unless you are an experienced atv rider. To answer your question "They work great!" I have had one for several years. I it is very comfortable for a passenger as far as back support. However unless you just on a slow smooth ride the passenger will be uncomfortable without having somewhere to firmly put his or her feet. Pegs or foot boards on quads just are not designed for two sets of feet. There is an exception though, Arctic Cat is the first Manufacturer to introduce a quad designed for two people, rumor is that other manufacturers will be introducing similar products. If you will be doing a lot of two up riding you might want to give one of these new machines some consideration. I would be much more comfortable for you and the passenger, it would also be much safer.

The passenger seats they design now can be quite comfortable....and they are safe as long as you are not an idiot when you are driving the machine...i take the missus all the time and just ride a little more carefully...buy a set of footpegs ($100 Canadian) and she'll be propped up and as comfortable as pig in ****..

I agree with Dustrusty AC has A very nice machine for two up riding, but it may be a while coming. If I understand correctly they are touring several around the dealerships in the country to get input from customers. While i have the chance you definately need to check the '03 AC 500 before you buy the ride quality, ability to keep all four tires planted, dependability, bang for the buck and customer satisfaction are unmatched IMO.
