I would recemond a mojave or blaster, they are great beginner sport quads, and once you get better a riding you can mod them up so you'll be able to keep up with some of the bigger quads. 250 or 300 ex might also be good. The only thing i could think of with the blaster is that it is a two stroke and from what i've heard they can be harder to ride than 4 strokes, i had no problems though.

How big is he (height and weight)?
What type of riding is he mostly going to be doing?
How much money is he looking to spend?
Does he plan on getting into racing later on?
The blaster: is a excellent quad for the smaller riders and now that it has hydrulic brakes it make it a better deal for $3200
The 300ex: is a nice mid-size quad w/ reverse with a decent price of $4799 msp (remember that thanks to the z400 honda has slashed these prices, you might be able to pick one up for closer to $4000).
The mojave: 250cc clutch $4099 msp (I don't know alot about the Kawies)
The lakota: 300cc auto clutch (you still shift, but not hand clutch) $4099
The trailblazer: Similar to the blaster but is larger and is fully automatic 2-stroke. $3200 msp.
The Ozark: 250cc sport/utility nice mid-size with the 5-speed auto clutch (like the lakota) $3499 msp.
The warrior: 350cc 4-stroke $4999.
Which machine out of these, depends on the questions I asked at the beginning. I would tell him to first determine how much he wants to spend. Then go and set on all this machines and look at them up close. Then narrow it do to 2 or three that he likes then take them for a test drive and buy the one he feels most comfortable on. Goodluck and lets us know what he in up getting. Also have him read some articles about each machine he's interested in before he buys one. The Dirtwheels buyers guide help out alot on informing on the different machines in the sport catagory.

He may want to look at something like a 400ex. It is no slouch but, the power is pretty friendly. He will have room to grow and can mod it for more power later. I really think it's a great starting quad because it's wide, it handles very well and because there is no reverse it sause one to think a little more before you leap

He is 5'9 160-175pds.
He will be mostly trail riding with some xc amd mx.
He wants to spend about $4,500.
He does want to race in the future.
After going to the dealer today he chose either the 250ex,300ex and 400ex.
Out of these three what do you guys think is the best choice?

My brother, who had little experience, rolled my z off a jump because he just wasn;t experienced enough to know what to do in all situations. The Z's sweet spot is in the mid to topend so most riders try to stay there and that is not a good combination for a beginning rider. The 400ex OTOH, is very low to mid range and is pretty happy to put around or go fast.
