Default oil light

I just purchased a used 02' DS650, it was sitting for a bit and needed alot of cleaningand TLC(mice had taken up residence in the airbox, LOL). So I purchased new plugs, K&N oil filter, oil etc. I cleaned the airbox out and washed the K&N air filter, let it dry and then oiled it. I then procedded to take her for a drive and she ran great.

So today I decided to change the oil and oil filter, drained the tank and crankcase. I also cleaned the screen on the oil tank fitting as I had to replace the lower oil line from the tank to the engine, got everything back together added the oil and started her up. Now the red indicator light will not turn off. I didnt want to run it too long with the light illuminated, will that take awhile to turn off after a oil change or should it have pressure fairly quickly?

I noticed that the red light wasnt fully illuminated(about 3/4 bright) when running when I turned the engine off the light became fully illuminated, could the temp sender by theoffending sensor?

Thnx for any help or insights!

Doug

If I'm not mistaken there is a bleed screw by the filter. I don't have my service manual with me so I can't tell you exactly where it is. Did you fill the filter with some oil before you put it on?

The best mod you can buy is the service manual for your quad.

PS. The bleed screw is to make sure that there is no air in your oil ports. Air in the lines or ports will cause the light to go on.

I removed the filter cover and filter(there was oil in there, to try the bleed screw, is there any trick to loosening that darn screw? Impact driver? They should have made that screw an allen type drive.

Every time I change oil, I always crank it over a few times with the filter out to make sure I have oil pressure after I have the fresh oil in. If its right, it should squirt oil out onto the floor. Thats how I know I have pressure. I leave the kill switch off and the key on, so it will crank but not fire.

I finally got the bleed screw free, Should I see oil coming out with the engine off? I didnt, only if I cranked the engine over.

I put everything back together and started her up for a few seconds(10 seconds max) and pulled the oil tank feed line and there is flow into the tank, so I would assume it is a oil sender that went out.

I pulled the oil pressure sender to check out what the threads were, my guess was right 1/8"BSPT and not 1/8"NPT threads, I have an adaptor that is more like an extension with 1/8"BSPT threads top and bottom with a 1/8"NPT port on the side, I will add a AN-4 line and a cheapo Autometer pressure gauge for a piece of mind.

And I did order a service manual on disc last week when I decided on buying this DS, it just hasnt arrived yet, I should probably also download the owners manual as well.

I know the 2004's had bad senders on them, My oil light has been on for years. There was a fix posted in here awhile back. I just never worried about it.

I stopped by a local shop and they had "one" oil sender in stock and it fixed the issue,,,,,

BUT in order to attempt to prevent this in the future I was thinking of using some dielectric grease in the connector, but didnt want to do anything and screw up this sender, LOL

Dielectric grease is a good idea on all electrical connections.

Glad you got it sorted out.
