^^^^ not going to find a problem without starting it ... Im betting the rectifier is shot and the mag is overvoltaging the system. this test can be done while running as long as you dont over rev it and get the voltage to high. just go easy and watch the meter ... if it climbs to 15volts shut it down and replace the rectifier ......

OK, checked voltage and everything was in range..got frustrated and took to dealer. I'm a bit embarrassed at what they found. A loose battery lead. I'm not sure how that would cause a fuse to blow and fry another NEW CDI box. Oh well, let this be a learning experience for all. The bike runs fine with the original box and hope to take out for a long ride soon....thx for all the help...great forum!

Can some one give me some knowledge of the ds 650 wiring cause i get lights and revolutions but no spark. Recently put a new crank assembly in and it started for about two minutes and idled fine then shut off and ever since there is no spark. Ive pit two cdi boxes on and a new pulse generator. I have gone thru the harness from the generator two the box to the coils and i cant find a short or nothing can someone diagnose this. great forum![/QUOTE]

The rectifier is supposed to max out at 14.5 volts, so if you see more than 14.5, that is a problem as well.

After you run the bike to the point it's "crappy", stop, turn off the engine, and check the voltage at the battery. You should see around 13.2 volts or so. If you are seeing low 12's, then the rectifier, battery, or both are bad.
I tested my battery while running today it showed 14.8 and 13.1 when off this is with a new battery maybe a week old. Not sure what my idle sits at(no tach) so maybe higher then it should be. I now assume my rectifier is bad?

Anyone know what may be causing my 02 ds650 to lose power while its in gear. In its neutral state its fine. As soon as I put into gear and start ridding it back fires and losses power in any gear. Any suggestions
