Need info on Sand Mountain Nevada
#11
This is all good stuff, more than I expected on a post specific of Sand mt., and I do appreciate it. I will hit all these places, I'll figure out the agenda over the next few months, and hook up with all you guys eventually, but I can't get to them all in one trip and next year's will be focusing on the trees and trails because this year was all desert. That puts Glamis on the backburner, but I'll get there too, maybe two years away.
Thanks guys!! I'm printing this thread for future reference, Oregon sounds good!

If you come to wyoming and want endless miles of trails to ride then that is a even better spot for ya. You could ride the dunes one day and then ride the roads around for another day. Put it this way you could ride an entire day on the dirt roads and never hit pavement and never go on the same road twice cept maybe a short stint back to camp. There actually many things to see there if you know where to look along with wildlife. There are indian hyrogliphics(sp?), Bores tusk(a volcanic core that rises from nowhere that you can see from the dunes actually), Worlds largest free raoming wild horse heard, Worlds largest desert Elk heard, countless antelope, and even some ice caves. I admit it isnt like this beautiful part of Wyoning because it isnt but there is alot to see there if you know it is there to look for it. i would be glad to help in any way possible. As for Dune riding the dunes there are about 5 times the size of Sand Mtn NV minus the mtn itself. dont get me wrong I love Sand mtn Nevada, it is one of my favs to ride because i like the draggs there. I have also made many freinds that ride there that are just the most awesome guys to ride with. Hope this helps.

First I will say I love Sand Mt.
But, I hear Utah has taller hills (haven't heard about the trail riding there).
I love shooting the hill and Sand Mt. is great for that (what makes it especially nice is the hill is right in front of the camp area so when you hear some thumper beating up on the Shee's you can put on your helmet and buzz over and roost join in on the roosting.) The bigger weekends are especially fun for that.
The trail riding is a blast. Only a couple negatives - trails are too narrow to pass (but plenty wide for the DS) and it can get dry & hot out there (especially this time of year.)
I think some of the best trail / type riding I have done is the fence line at Pismo. Get a group of about 5-10 riders on the fence line and you can always break-off to pass. Good competitive type riding.
If you come try to pick a weekend where a bunch of us will be there. The family type atmosphere and campsite groups make this a great spot.

Sweet, it gets better all the time!
Utah and Idaho were awesome man, I'm not looking to top them, don't even think its possible at this point, but what I'm looking for is just different places - I just wanna ride them all because its an addiction! Sight seeing via 4-wheeler sounds sweet man, so check your pm's Demon!

if you want trail riding the coos bay/horsfall, hauser area of the oregon dunes is the place to go. We were just there for 7 days and never covered all of the trails that were there, did 250 miles according to my trail tech speedometer. Its worth the drive if you are coming out in the summer because most other sand dunes besides st. anthonies and pismo will be too hot. Pismo is nice in the summer but its just so small and gets so crowded. Hope this helps you, not make you more frustrated at choosing which dunes to go to, hehe. Sean

hey hightower i was on group ride yesterday morning so i wanted to show bigslim one of the idiot holes and there was a couple of guys stuck in the trail, i don't know why but, i was wishing i had the camera to show you how steep the trail is. plus me and bigslim must have rode trails for hours this weekend anyways thought you would have liked it while we were out there, theres razor backs to jump hills to climb, trails to follow most of the time there is water to cross, once we were out this winter and we must have rode water trails for two miles, that was different. i think all the riding spots would be great, but on the central oregon coast there is 3 big ride areas within a hour, and i mainly ride florence, never can get enough. well i'll get that info and send some your way
