Default Everybody check thier OIL TANK screen on thier next oil change!!!

There is a Screen in your oil tank that filters the oil before it goes to your engine. This thing can and will get clogged over time, and if not checked every once in a while could cause SERIOUS damage to your engine. For those that dont know, if you look at were the big hose comes out of the bottom of your oil tank, thier is a big nut thier. The screen is attached to this big nut,and should be taken out and cleaned every 3-4 months.

I have taked mine out twice in the last year, and both times it had ALOT of blockage!! DSmike almost burned up his engine last weekend becuase of this same problem. He noticed his yellow quad was not pulling hard on top, so he went in to check his jetting, and change his oil, and thier was only a few ounces of oil in the motor!! The motor was trying to SIEZE up on him, thus no hard top-end pull.

Hurycne, wasn't so lucky, and didn't catch it in time and Seized his crank bearings BEYOND repair. he had to buy a new crank.

I know our quads are getting older, and with everybody modifying thier engines, you WILL need 100% oil circulation. so on your next oil change please check this screen in your tank!!!!!!! I dont want to hear of anyone else siezeing up thier $$$$ motor over something very little.

The last time I changed my oil(Aledo) I looked for one but didnt find it. Pull the hose off at the bottom of the tank and its there? Do you take the fitting off?

The filter screen is a metal mesh, so it is easily cleaned with gas. and then you simply screw it back in(2 minute job).

Chet,

small metal shavings,"goo" and crud!! seem to be what I find most of the time.

I know Scooby had posted a thread like this several months ago, but it is time to remind everyone again. EVERYONE needs to do this!!!

biggerisbetter,

At what point in the system is the oil being filtered? I assume this small screen is before the oil filter.

your right, this screen is about as big and long as your pinky. the oil from the tank travels through it then down the oil line where it enters the motor into the first oil pump which circulates the oil through the oil filter then through the engine and then another oil pump pickes up the oil and flows it UP to the oil tank. So in this "cycle" the oil is filtered twice.
