Sounds like a bomb defect. Alot I mean alot of people have had this problem. In the manuel you get with the quad and in my service manuel it makes no mention of this filter. When I looked at mine after the seizure I thought that was easy to change/clean if I would have known!

there's also a screen in the cases. that makes 3 sources of filtering, overkill if you ask me. but I like the screen in the tank, becuase it can catch anything you may drop in the fill port while checking your oil - like sand, grit, dirt, that may fall off the edge of the gasket in the parking lot, etc.

It sure does to be included in the manual, that's for sure. 2 extra minutes at every other oil change is all that needed. Bom's manuals and documentation lack a lot to be desired, many mistkaes, misprints, etc.

Well I know there is something in there about the oil strainer in the oil tank. Like I said before if it wasn't in there I wouldn't have been cleaning mine out for the past year or so.... I've been checking mine since I had it and something about it has to be in the shop manual. I know there is somewhere, but I would have to look.
