I'm guessing you do a lot of open space riding on smooth terrain.
I have 22" Holeshots on mine and it ran very good with stock gearing, but clutch started slipping within 2 hours, put heavy duty springs in it and it does fine. If you've got 20s, you could go with 17t in front ($35), or maybe better for a lot of open space riding a 37t rear ($55). This will help keep the chain off the roller a little more. I'm pretty sure you have to grind a little off the casesaver for the 17t, too. Oh yeah, like me, you will need springs eventually running tall gears, they are around $30.

Ron Wood Racing is the only place i know to get sprockets (other than 15/16/40) and i think all rears are aluminum, he also has the springs.

Hope this helps,

Dave

try a 15 front, there 12.99 rocky moutain, it seems to help the bottom a little, it might also be about the same on top. by that i mean you may not be able to rev out with the 16.

mxzrev800,

The mathmatical concept of gearing will not allow your statement "more top speed and not really loose any on the bottom" to be true. If you want both 'more top speed, and the same low end', then you'll need to change your power to weight ratio and increase power via engine mods or weight loss or both as well as changing the gearing.

There are a lot of Gearing Calculators out there. Find one and change your front sprocket, rear sprocket or tire height to change your top speed.

If I were you, I would do the following:

1) Change your rear tire height to 22"
2) CDI Box and Larger Carb to increase power

I tried out that gearing calculator and using basically the same gear ratios as the DS for my Warrior (which I'm sure is not quite correct) and adding the 6th gear at .80 my stock setup would be (i'm assuming my front and rear sprocket sizes ...)

12/42 sprockets
22" rears
7500 RPM
6th gear = 63.5MPH, which is more or less correct

I notice that changing the front sprocket is much more dramatic than the rear, but considring a 1 tooth change is a much higher percentage than on the rear, it's not surprising.

All things being equal and ideal, I could acheive a maximum speed of 79.4mph by going up to a 15 tooth front and keeping everything else the same. I know that would never happen on a Warrior because it just doesn't have the power to do it, and it would completely destroy my bottom end!!

Maybe I should go the other way and put a 10/50 on .. definitely have some jump off the line then ) prolly top out at 30mph too though!!!

Just thought I'd share my experiments with y'all.

I use 16/40 with 22 tires...

If my clutch was slipping, would I know it without a doubt?? I have never experienced clutch slip that I know of in my lifetime..so I'm not sure what it should feel like..

under high stress on the motor (usually going up a hill in 2nd or 3rd gear at 7500-8000 RPM, you'll start to hear the motor RPM go up, but not proportional to your speed. From there it starts to get even more obvious.
