Front sprocket nut...

K one final question....Which way does the sprocket go in??
In the middle of the sprocket there is an "extension" on one side... Which side does this lip or extension go on the quad??
Thanks

K..Nevermind...
It's all done now...After a few hours (yea, a few hours, with some complications)
16tooth to 14tooth transfer is complete... I just finished and its 3 am...
I used epoxy on the nut and bent the washer thingy so hopefully the nut wont move...
Big thanks to MudStud for the help .
Now all I need is to go try it out....But I'll have to wait till tomorrow morning... oh well..
Jeff

Finished pounding my sprocket hub off last night at 1:30am.
The neighbor asked me today... "what the hell was that noise??!!"
Also... I didn't use any loctite. I just bent the washer over on one side... and a little on another.
It's not going anywhere as long as the nuts tight and the splined teeth on the washer are in good shape.
I rode 400 miles in two days for mine to still be as tight as a .... well.... ya know. Was it "prom night" ... or "the ninth grade dance" ?? OOOohhhhhh.... sorry. Bad one.

How did you get the nut to like bend around....I could only bend it a little with a screwdriver while it was on the sprocket...

What do you do about the chain when changing the front sprocket? Is it out of the way enough just by being loosened all the way?
I really need to get serious about changing my front sprocket... 22" sand tires are awesome but they make the gearing WAY taller.
BTW-- I have seen 8 point sockets, and they weren't even Canadian! They're really handy when working on OLD stuff with the old style square nuts and bolt heads.

Yes when its at it's loosest point...the sprocket will slide off with the chain still on it...then you just put the new sprocket on the chain...and slide it in
Anyway, I just went out to test it with the new gearing... IT is way torquier (that a word?) and the machine REVs so damn fast and pulls hard to peak rev like never before... I've come to the conclusion that I need new tires because these ones just absolutely SPIN in EVERYTHING on EVERY GEAR...except for pavement...
I was in a field next to my house (Thick grass)...Was on a 2nd...Gave it some good gas to try to wheelie...Instead It just spun like a **** until I released (Sitting way back on seat, but didn't tug). If I give a good tug and pull my weight back, it will lift about 2-3 feet then fall back down..
On pavement though, it's a monster...just sitting I blip the throttle and it starts to lift up like a charm... I tried to lift in 3rd gear put I couldn't lift it high enough to actually call it a wheelie...
Conclusion : I like how it revs quick and eliminates the need to downshift when you want power on tap...Also like the fact that is way easier to whip it around (tires are partly to blame though)... I feel like it's missing out on the top a lot...But it doesn't bother me much.. All in all. I'm pretty happy...Now I need a set of real tires...

Well... if so ... back at ya!
If not,
I use a chisel style punch... to bend the WASHER. And I don't hammer on the thing and squish it to the nut. It's not needed if you got the nut tight enough. I guess a flat bladed screw'em driver would work too. I'm more a "use the right tool for the job" kinda guy. I had a good shop teacher... and father to learn from!
Did ya make that Christmas list yet?!?!?
