Baja X
Alright guys, I'm new here. I just picked up my '04 Baja X last night though, and it is awsome. I have a 700 V-Force also (that's now for sale!) and my friend recently bought a Raptor. The V-Force and Raptor were really close, and I couldn't have that, so I bought the X. This bike flat out screams. I love the close ratio trans, the power is great, the ride is controlled yet plush. I have now ridden or owned most of the (owned: V-Force, KXF400, 400EX. Ridden:Raptor, YFZ450) and I can honestly say that this machine seems the best to my so far.
One thing that irks me though. The top speed is limited because if the rev limiter and I can't lose the Raptor because it has the same top end! I need 200-300 more rpm's and it's all over. I could change the gearing, but I don't want to lose the acceleration. The bike charges so hard to the limiter, I know it has more left in it. I need help!

First of all welcome to the wide world of DS. It is great to have you and we anticipate to hear about your adventures with your new quad. To answer your question the easiest way to get top end without giving up acceleration will be a new cdi unit. You can do a search of the forum and will find a good recent thread that dealt with the pro's and con's of putting on an aftermarket cdi. This will give you 600-unlimited more rpm's above the stock 7900rpm. Good luck and show those other guys how to ride.

Plenty of power to pull some more rpm's. The only problem with some cdi's is there is no limiter. Like BAJAX said you can just watch the tach. If you are very aware of your machine this is fine. Most experts say the stock valvetrain is only good to about 8500rpm. It is very important to stay at or below that during operation or the shims under the valves may come out and cause terminal damage. In your case though another 600 rpm's should be plenty to smoke the raptor. Good luck hunting.
