GLAMIS!!! Sand Drags
I watched a sand car get out of shape at Gecko on FSW2 weekend and ran for my life, most of the crowd just moved back a couple feet but I've been around enough mishaps to know better.
For people that don't know the situation it's a free for all drag race on flat sand with spectators lining the strip. Nobody running the show, no safety rails or fencing or berms and people can line widely at the start with up to 20 or so bikes running at oce. The mouth is wide and funnels meaning spectators can be just a couple feet away. These 350 to 800H.P. sand cars have become very popular, they are wickedly impressive and wheely forever but don't steer to well with the front wheels in the air. An hour with a bulldozer would make berms enough to prevent most forseeable accidents. It's a shame no one in the BLM had that kind of forsight.

The couple times I went when it was crowded I wasn't impressed. Disappointed actually. It isn't sand drags, it's a parade. There is hardly anyone "racing". Eventually some drunk gets naked and rides his 3-wheeler around. That's something I really DON'T need to see. There used to be a berm at the "start" that quad and bikes would line up at. But it was also a jump for the big rails...BAD COMBINATION. The rails can't see beyond the berm. It's as miracle more people aren't killed.
I'd rather watch the rails at Olds...from a distance.

Thats the zoo at gecko its lost its drag stirp to a stage show but there are a few other drag areas where some one stands on the burms and directs traffic for the rails. And bikes jumping in !!! And there are thousand of heads up one on one drag raCes every night !! So all is not bad !!! Maybe this will clean up glamis a little more??????????
THAT WOULD SURELY MAKE GECKO A BETTER PLACE TO CAMP

the drags at Glamis certainly can turn into a parade and that is a shame. However, it would be more of a shameif they shut them down. I've been many times where it hasn't turned into one big car show and people were actually racing. I've even raced there myself. anyway, let's hope it isn't true
