I've been trying to decide whether I should start building the motor on my Z400 or trade for a different quad. I've looked at the Raptor, YFZ450, Predator etc., but so far the only other quad I really like is the DS650. The only thing I didn't like about it is how stiff the clutch lever is. Have any of you DS owners done anything to fix this problem? Also, do think the DS would be a good fit for me? I live in OK., so I mostly ride Little Sahara, Appalachia Bay, and different spots along the Arkansas River. At Little Sahara my favorite things are jumping and drag racing. I know the DS is a good drag racer, but I'm afraid it's too heavy to be a good jumper. What are your opinions?

I don't know whos lever you squeezed but my daughter never complains! BTW, you've got a nice collection of quads in your sig and the Z responds well to mods...have you done anything to yours at all??? Go for the basic bolt on mods: pipe, k&n filter, jet kit, cdi...you'll be happy with the results and you won't be out a tremendous amount of cash...you aren't trying to spend all your extra cash before xmas, are you? LOL...J/K Ya know I think next to the Rotax in the DSs the engines in the Zs and the KFXs will be around alooooooong time...thats a solid powerplant in those machines.

I don't know what springs were in it. It was a brand new X on the showroom floor. All I know is it was alot harder to pull than my Z. Maybe I'm just spoiled. The clutch on the YFZ was harder than my Z also. I've already done the bolt-ons to the Z. (pipe, k&n, intake adapter, rejet, no lid) If I keep the Z it'll be time for cams, carb, high comp piston etc. Maybe even a 434 kit.

You're just too used to the REALLY light clutch lever of the Z. The heavier pull is not a problem on the DS, and the "fix" (heavier springs) that most of us have installed makes it worse.
My DS has a shorter clutch lever (busted end off) AND heavier springs. The combination can make for a long weekend. There probably are people not strong enough to pull my clutch...
