who ports intakes for tm45
#3
How much gain could a person get on a stock setup with a ported intake? I assume when you port an intake you are getting it ported for the exact setup, so it'ed probably be a waste right? Too bad it couldn't be ported now, then go to the bigger carburetor later.

I ported the intake on my bone stock bike and gained 4hp on the dyno. Then when I went to the Lectron it was a bolt on deal because the intake was already opened up. That intake is fairly restrictive on top end. I have a dyno sheet that shows the difference between stock and ported.

So I could port the intake now, and have it work just as well later then? (If I used a Lectron or TM45?) I was under the impression that the intake had to be ported to the size of the carburetor etc to get any benefit. Gaining 4hp just by correcting the flow of fuel sounds like a great way to take get power without really screwing anything up. This sounds promising. Wow, I even learned something new on T-day!

I think MrHorsepower was running the stock carb(42mm) and picked up these good numbers. With the larger carb (TM45) you need to open up the inlet side to let it breath. The lectron or the 45 will see an increase with this mod.

I guess what I'm thinking can I port the carburetor for the TM45 or Lectron 46, while still using the stock carburetor & still get some gains out of it? I'm sure one day I'll make a choice on a carburetor & I don't like doing anything twice, so I'm just thinking it'ed be cool to get it ported for the larger carburetor now, & get a little improvement.

I ported the intake to 47mm so it would work with the Lectron but ran the stock carb for a while. The intake was way bigger than the stock carb opening and worked real well. It's kinda like going from a dual plane to single plane intake on a car, basicly you gain plenum volume for top end horsepower. Then when it was time to bolt on my Lectron the intake was already ported.
