you may get yourself deeper than you wanted if you involve yourself..
I agree
I was faced with this not long ago.......if you try to interfere it will be more trouble than it is worse....

Yep. That's why I made the suggestion to do it yourself.
I know someone that had an XR400 stolen and they knew where it was and the cops did NOTHING. I guess they didn't want to be bothered with it.

why dont you have a word with your friend and tell him how wrong you think the whole thing is and this guy shouldnt be able to get away with it,
like some one else said he actualy feel the same way, also why would he think you would be interested in a stolen quad??

other than that stay out of it,

i had a bike stolen and a neighbours security camera filmed it all and he wiped it cos he was scared to get involved i was real pissed off at the time but with hindsight i dont blame him, some one else who i had never met aproached me and gave me some info on who had took the bike and they ended up feeling the repercussions for doing the right thing,

the only person you need to do the right thing by is yourself and your family, if in doubt stay out of it, its one thing for an inocent bystander to give info to the law, or report a crime and im sure most criminals accept that its an ocupational hazard, but its another thing entirely to set the guy up and im sure he wouldnt be to pleased,

i do wish we lived in a world that just didnt tolerate this behaviour but the problem is we do, its all very well for people to come on here and say you gota do the right thing but they aint gona be watching your back and nobody else will either,

When a common theif can scare the general public into letting them carry on thier activites, then the crooks have won. We are all afraid of the consequences of doing the RIGHT thing, while it is them who should be concerned about the consequences of doing the WRONG thing and stealing in the first place.

I will not be one to tell a man to put his wife and family in danger. But how long until we are all in danger... Just a thought.

And why do you think this is? It's when people take the easy way out, and let known criminals go unpunished. It's when you let some moron intimidate you. It's this way because we let it become this way.

If you ask me, there is no ethical delima. The answer is clear.

the problem is that thiefs and criminals arnt on the path of doing the right thing to start with wich is why thigs get out of hand and lead to repercussions, nobody wants to takeit like a man these days they always want to come out on top and have the last laugh, and were all guilty of that in whatever way.

there was a time if you deserved a beating you took your beating and lived with it, these days nobody does they come back at you with watever its gona take to come out on top, it applies at all levels,

be sensible you dont even know the guy who has the quad its your friend that does and he doesnt see fit to do anything so why should you??

how do you know the guy doest visit these forums and already knows your thinking of informing on him, it could even be someone who has posted on here saying to stay out of it,

In a situation like this only you can determine what is the right thing to do but i dont really see this as being a dilemna and i will tell you why.In my opinion a thief is the lowest of the low and is usually someone who would rather take what others have worked very hard to obtain while he chooses the easy illegal method of what is in his mind ownership. If everyone chose to not take action in this type of situation then the thiefs would win every time and then where would we be?I may sound like i am judging you but i am not i am simply stating that in my mind and for myself i always try to do what is morally right and i deal with the consequences later and at least in my case i can handle anything such a scumbag wants to throw at me but you may feel differently. As far as your friend goes if he doesnt understand what is the right thing to do he may not be worthy of your friendship.I would try to think of what you would like to have someone do if you were the one who got their quad stolen and i will bet you can come up with the right response.

no actualy its got more to do with people not having the ***** to see things thru, its easy to make sneaky anonimous phonecall to the law, but once its made theres a good chance things may get out of hand, how many cases fall flat on there **** when a witness refuses to testify or give evidence in court?? even tho it was them who tiped the law off in the first place, they just didnt realise how out of controll things could get once they made the call,

thats all any off us are saying here, we all know what the right thing to do is and the dilema isnt shall i tell or not its can i live with the repercussions if there are any,

when the guy firebombs your house cos hes a f-ing loonatic with a grudge and your family are burnt alive im sure that the fact you "did the right thing" will make you feel a whole load better,

I was in your shoes not long ago. A friend of mine wonted to know if I wonted to by a piece of equipment. I said I would be interested so he had the guy call me. I set up a time to meat with the guy and looked over the piece of equipment. I noticed the equipment had a sticker from a local distributor that I deal with. I called the distributor to see what he new about the machine (i.e. was the machine well maintained ext.) He informed me the machine was stolen and gave me the name of the guy it belonged to. To make a long story short we ended up setting up a sting and the guy got arrested. Like some of the people who have been posting I to was afraid the guy would retaliate. It never happened. As for my friend he thought the whole thing was funny. He didn’t know it was stolen merchandise. Looking back I would do it again in a heart beat.

It feels good to do the right think and I have lost friend for a lot less
