Default Getting ready for Trip to Utah. Altitued/jetting questions

We are leaving june 4th for Little sahara Utah (going to ride for 6-7 days)
The elevation where i normally ride is 800ft. Utah (as i have found through internet searches) is somewhere in hte 3500-4500 area...

Since the air is thinner i know i have to drop a few jet sizes.... I just put on an HMF pipe with the stock header to try out that combo for awhile. (i was running a 175 mikuni main stock pilot) And i switched to a 45 pilot with the HMF. It seems to be a tad rich yet.. (hoping i can fine tune the needle to get it where it needs to be)

Can anyone explain exactly what part of the throttle the pilot is at and the needle is at? Im pretty sure the pilot is just past idle up to 1/4? and the needle controls 1/4 to about 3/4 Then main is WOT?

I want to know exactly so i will know if i need to work on the pilot or the needle. Speaking of... does anyone know where to order "half" sized Mains and pilots? My local dealerships can only order full sizes (ie 45/50 or 175/180 and im looking for 42.5 and somthing like a 177.5) Im pretty sure they are around but dont know where to get them.

With my Mods about what should i gear at to run Little sahara? (most say drop 2-3 sizes on main) so maybe a 165 mikuni 40 (stock) pilot ?

Just want to set it as close as possible so once im there i can spend most of my time riding not tuning!

Thanks guys

Roost, I would run a 167.5 main. 165 might be alright, but you might be a little lean. Your pilot I would run at 40. Needle in the bottom position, or one clip up.
Our stock ds with end cap mod and K&n we run a 165, 40, clip in the richest position. 15 tooth front sprocket. 3rd gear up the backside and face. If your a heavy guy, I would drop to a 14 tooth and still try 3rd up the face. By the way, i believe the elevation at LS is 4300' Run your air screw at about 2 3\4 out +/-

Roost, I checked out your pics, and I would run this: 167.5, 40, clip in the richest, 2 3\4 out. 15 tooth front, 8 paddles 3 lbs of air. If you get there and the sand is really soft, and you can pull third up the face, pump them tires up. I'm figuring a 20x10x10 tire. I might have to make a day run on the fifth and meet ya.

i weigh 230. I currently have the 15 tooth front on (stock rear) and will be running 22 inch sand stars on .190s I ran the 14T front with the 22 stars at silver lake and the gearing seemed way too low.... (was constantly shifting)

i do plan to run 22's in the rear for all around use now, so maybe i should run the 15 and go a couple teeth up in the back? or run the 14 and go a couple teeth down? (didnt really want to get into messing with the rear as they arnt cheap and are harder to change)

where did you find half sized mains? (no one around here has them)

also what order of washers do you use on the needle? (i have messed with mine a bit and dont remember the stock order.... i believe there are 3 washers? the fat white one then two thin ones?)

the stars are 22x11x10 What will increasing pressure in the tires do for me?

we are leaving the 4th at 6am but im pretty sure we are staying the night somewhere half way there...so we may not be able to ride till sunday.

are there spark arrestor/Decibel laws? I just put the hmf on and already put the quiet core/sparky in but will run without them if i can get away with it. (its SUPER loud without them though)

Roost , run the stock pilot in everything but winter then do the 45 . needle in center for summer and 4 th for winter . with sparky and q-core in run the totally stock specs (165), uncorked run a 170 main . this should be very close . the only difference is I had a rw cdi and yours is a big gun (shouldn't matter tho)

a 165 for around here or for utah? Im running a 185 now and with the WB pipe i was considering going one size larger because it seemed to be running too warm...

I ran the stock pilot (40) , needle in middle position , and a 170 mikuni main w/o the q-core and sparky . in IL. with the q-core and sparky the stock jetting was pretty close . I had no problems with heat and the bike was fast . Plug color was almost perfect . on 87 octane fuel

o wow im surprised running the Q and sparky bottles it up that much. Ill have to wait till someone posts about whether or not there are DB laws and Spark arrestor requirements (if there are that means i will probably have to get some pretty small jets? 155 maybe?) but if i dont have to run the Q and sparky i should have enough jets to jet down
