It's like old Simplicity mowers. You ride "on" them more than "in" them.
It's so light it barely skims the ground at top speed. But it feels like I'm on a rollerskate

Default Next Step vs YFZ??

Sam..my jetting is the same as your was except I'm at a 175 main. One thing I did notice after the end cap mod was in top gear..4th and 5th, I wasn't pulling away as fast from the YFZ as before with the stock cap. I'm better thru 3rd gear and I still pull him up top, but I didn't see any gains and maybe alittle less in the upper gears. Seems to run good, but I wonder if I'm alittle rich on the main or is the air/fuel screw setting maybe not spot on. It said to run the screw at 3-5 turns out..I'm only out about 2 1/2 ? Does the air/fuel screw effect my top end?

I don't notice any clutch slippage..but who knows..

air screew doesnt efect top end, I would try a couple combonations to get it diald in. like a 170 main 172.5 main and possison the clip in diffrent possions start at one end ,going every other one and work your way to the other end till you get what you like. 175 might be a little rich for this time of year.
The good thing is you have someone that runs neck and neck w/ you, these can be like dynos because you can gage your performance gains or losses. If you dont have that persone to run with you it can be a little deceving. For example I took my air box lid off and jetted up and it felt awsome, but I lined it up with my cuzes DS and he would blow by me. Put it on and I would get him. the air box lid thing has been in dispute for a while but thats another subject.

Sam..yeah, having the buddy with the YFZ is a nice way to judge any power increases/decreases. He's getting ready to pipe the YFZ..so I need to get her dialed in before he does that. I think I'll try the 172.5 main 1st..the top end seems to be the only place that might be lagging alittle..still pulls him, but not as good as I would have thought..

I started at a 175, needle on 3rd notch. The midrange would bog. Went to 172.5 & needle on 5th notch. still the same bog but not as bad. Went to 170. Seems OK now. Might try 170 with needle on 4th notch & even a 172.5 like that. I think for me the 175 is too much. I hate tinkering with jetting. I just want to ride. It seems like a compromise on my quad. If I have it set to run good in a drag once I putter in the tight woods for awhile it loads up & misses rich. If I lean it out to where the throttle is quick & crisp in the woods it doesn't pull on the drags quite as hard. I compromise & run it leaner. I hate a foul running quad when just riding.

I raced my friends 450R the other night. My jetting was off (no excuses here though). I won but barely. Those 450's are no joke. I beat 2 Yammys too. But barely also. All 3 times I've got a decent start. That is important. They go quick from the start being so light. However, If the world needs a better 450....'Bomb will build it.
