Default 15T front for 22" sand tires?

only one potential issue with 14T front - the rear engine mount bolt must be installed with the head on the right side and the nut on the left, or the chain will rub the end o fthe bolt where it protrudes thru the nut if its on the left side. And then later when it ever comes time to remove this nut, it will be a b!tch.

So with regards to the rear sprocket, would you go with Aluminum or Stainless or Chromoly?

I was going to use the 15T with 22" Sand Star's with the stock rear sprocket but after reading some of the history maybe I should switch to a 40T rear?

WAIT: The stock is 40T so do I change to 42T? OR ????????

Hey Tom, you still keeping up with FTW??? The 15t is a great gearing ratio for duning that beast. You will be able to pull almost any hill without having to shift. Works really nice IMO. What kind of tires are you running on that, haulers or V padle?

PS Glamisdunes.com is another killer site, much more in tune for the dune questions.

I'm running the Sand Star V paddle type. I just purchased the 22" with 8 paddles.
I also have a 15T sprocket that I will be putting on next week.
Most of my time is spent in the dunes and when I'm not I'll switch back to the stock tires and sprocket.

I was at dumont a couple of weeks ago with my new 22" extremes, with stock gearing. Everything seemed to go fine, but mine is piped, jetted, and ran with the airbox lid off

I rode Glamis 2 weeks ago. I day bone stock with 22 haulers, the next day with an end cap, jetted, and K&N. Day 1 I was not happy with the DS performance at all. Day 2 was 180 degrees out (better) from Day 1, I loved it! IMO the stock gearing is perfect with 22s unless you are bone stock. With a couple of relatively low-cost mods it worked awesome; 3rd gear was used almost in total, from almost dead stop turns to full-on throttle through the bowls. I really liked it.
