well my noise was on start up.... its really hard to explain a noise in text...but here goes...
when i would try to start it, if it didnt fire up after a few revolutions, sometimes it would stop (piston i assume) and it would make a loud snapping sound (my theory was that it didnt complete a full up stroke, and mid way just got pushed back down) dont know if that has anything to do with the bearing or not (once i get it all back together i guess ill find out)
the other thing was a Loud grinding type noise coming from the starter (i guess it came on slow because it was my buddy who noticed it one day, then i figured out that ya, it wasnt the same noise as it was stock) [i also confirmed this by hearing plenty of other ds' start]
again without a small wav file its hard to show noise on the net lol but once my machine would fire the noise was gone (so i know it was the starter/gears or somthing that moves upon start up)

61 tooth starter gear
11/52 tooth starter gear
gasket
lockwasher
got all the parts overnight except 11/52 starter gear it is back ordered every place i called . finally i called and recreationspec 270-462-2528 they had a used one man they saved my vacation these guys are great to deal with if you need parts give them a call.

Well i got it back together and i went to start it backfired it sheered the key off tore it back apart and i am now waiting on the key. check the key guys when you go back together mine was stressed i guess from the starter problem i did not see it but know that i got it apart again i can see stress marks on the key

yes it has 1400 hours on it. It has never gave me any trouble before i hope i can get it going i told the old lady she might be riding the 300ex she just gave me the look you know the one i am talking about LOL

Wow! My power is back on after 13 days. I live in Jupiter, Florida. The hurricane snapped a lot of trees on the power lines. I missed my computer almost as much as air conditioning.
My DS is an 03. I have about 300 hard, wet hrs on it and so far only minor things. How much was the damage? Was that the first thing to go?

From what I understand, this quad is set up from the factory as a tame beast. When you start adding things to increase it's beastlyness, the factory things start to give in. So when you start modifing it, you have to keep going until it is completly modded out.

well i havnt really modded anything (besides clutch) that would warrant parts breakage. (head bolts havnt been touched...i could see if there was a super high comp. piston in there making the starter clutch go out... but for having under 100 hours on it that dosnt seem right.)
o by the way i called bomb to report this and see what they say. (i have been out of warranty since like feb of 04) it was basically a big game of phone tag and finally they just came out and said no warranty = no fix.
i do think some atv manuf need to lower thier prices on OEM parts...its ridiculous that the sprag and gear total are 400 bucks (if it was a car part it would probably have been 50 for the both of them)
errrr really dosnt make me want to buy bomb again (i have this bad feeling about dropping 7k on an 05 just to have the same problems!)
i hate to say it but i might be looking into the 450r if this thing gives me another ounce of trouble.
