found the damaged starter clutch... but only 17.97?
the shop pulled the flywheel, and i found so far i think all i need is the starter gear part number 711 634 317 (does anyone know if all years are the same?)
then a few of the rollers have been flatened....but upon looking at the shop manual it looks like that roller bearing is seperate from its own little housing? so really all i would need is part number 711 259 192 ?? (for those of you who have shop manuals/parts lists)
Let me know if im looking at the wrong thing
Thanks

#711 634 317 is the sprag housing..you probably need the sprag bearing #711 958 857
When I lost my clutch sprag......
I had to replace the sprag clutch #711 958 857, but not the sprag housing #711 259 192(so yes the bearing and housing are seperate parts)
The bad sprag also damaged the bearing surface on the 61 tooth starter gear #711 634 317 & the flywheel hub #711 264 577.........look at the sprag bearing surfaces, they should be smooth!!
All this carnage also chipped some teeth on another starter gear ..the 11/52 gear......#711 234 756
So all in all.....it cost me lots of $$$$ to get mine fixed

looking at my CD manual (off ebay...) keep in mind this is for a 2001....
but it shows the 711 634 317 being the 66 tooth starter gear... and i will probably need one of those too...mine is pretty scratched up (havnt looked at the flywheel hub though)
o did you mean that 711 259 192 is the housing? (i realized i was looking at the wrong part number)
so i guess the actual sprag bearing is 711 958 857
do you remember what any of these parts cost you? when i called the dealership today they said the 66 tooth gear is 115, the lock was is 2.00 and the sprag housing is like 16 (i got all excited because when i wrote it down i thought i had the bearing number not the housing...lol) hopefully just that little bearing isnt too much?

well as of like a month ago i would have said no... but now seeing the people who have done it in the past, and the 3 of us that are doing it now i wouldnt yet call it common...but its getting close.
hmmm now to call and find out how much just the bearing is... (too bad i have to get a whole new starter gear too )

are these all the same problems? my rollers on the bearing got chipped off a bit so some of them are smooth (therefore not grabbing) i guess the material that came off the rollers scratched up the main starter gear (66t) so i need another one.... the rest of my gears seem to be ok though (i guess if you lost a big enough chunk of material you could damage the rest of the gears inside the right case...)
