old topic, FAN DIED!
I pulled my 2nd dead fan apart yesterday, there is a bearing on one end and a bushing on the other end. well this bushing was worn, allowing the whole armeture to "wobble" slightly and you could tell it had been rubbing the magnets since the clearance here is so tight, creating mega drag on the rotation. there was also tiny chips of magnet inside the enclosure, they didn't seem to be caused by the rubbing though, but rather perhaps by vibration.
the brushes, wires, and windings were all good.
The fan needs to be mounted on rubber grommets of course, but this will not solve the bushing wear. I don't get why it doesn't just have a bearing at each end, the bearing was perfectly smooth still.
This fan has been on my motor for over 300 hours of motor time. I would expect fans on the new rubber mounted models to fail eventually, but not nearly as often.
You got it man!

If you come up with something good let me know, I'd love to put that on my site.

SPARKY4Q2,
If you have a 2003 Baja (same as me) then your fan already has the better mounting location and it is probably more of a fluke than anything that it failed - I'd just replace it and you probably wont ever think about it again.

the fan from offroadwarehouse is exactly the same as the original fans, same exact as the one I removed from my '01. IF the fan on the new models is the same as the old, then it will, but I cannot confirm whether or not the new model fan is the same - but I do believe it is, just not positive...I'm about 95% sure yes...can somebody else confirm?
only thing is the electrical connector is different, so you gotta cut off the plugs and swap them to plug it in.

The fans between my 2001 and 2003 were exactly the same. In fact I'm pretty sure the connectors are the same as well (though I haven't looked in two years.) The stock / factory fan from my 2003 is now installed on my 2001, with tabs welded onto the frame to allow the same type of mounting. I have one of the offroadwarehouse.com fans on my 2003 (I got the waterproof one, just in case) and I bought an extra set of the platic tabs & crap.
