old topic, FAN DIED!
I did some riding over the weekend, my idiot light came on, so i stopped and noticed my fan was running, but very slow. Kinda making a grinding noise? I dont know if the brushes are bad, bearings maybe? I let it idle in the garage till the light came on, and the fan did not come on, i turned it a little by hand and it took off, but still the same thing, very slow and dont sound healthy. I remember somebody saying where you could get one for a reasonable price. Has anybody checked in to any different styles of fans, the stock one dont seem very dependable, alot of people seem to have problems with them! Any help is greatly appreciatted! THANKS GUYS!!!!

I agree, too bad the dealers don't offer a conversion kit.
there is room between the radiator and frame to actually screw mounting tabs on to bolt the fan with rubber grommets, using countersunk screw heads. this would necesitate radiator removal to drill and stuff, but doesn't look to be too hard. of course welding tabs would be ideal, but for those that can't, or don't wanna have to repaint I mean.
I'm gonna take this on over the winter, and if it works out simple post pics of the process for everybody to take adantage of.

Hightower,
If you come up with something good let me know, I'd love to put that on my site. This is probably the most important 'mod' someone could make to a 2000 - 2001 machine, aside from the 2000 models using the larger filter cover - nothing will ever top that.
SPARKY4Q2,
If you have a 2003 Baja (same as me) then your fan already has the better mounting location and it is probably more of a fluke than anything that it failed - I'd just replace it and you probably wont ever think about it again.

Country Joe,
Just buy the oil filter cover from a 2001 or newer DS650, when you do your next oil change buy the filter for a 2001 DS and leave your 2000 filter cover off, install the longer filter, the longer filter cover and that is about it, do everything else exactly the same as before - now you have the newer filter style.
