It's just a thought but my choke got sticky for a while and I was sure that it was in. It would take an enormous push to turn it all the way off and it caused alot of the same effects you are describing. Another thing to check is the vacuum boot inside the carb, they develop wear spots or tears and would cause the carb not to open up full throttle.
Just a couple more things to check.
